Smash and Grab Jewel Heist

On a Sunday morning, while the UTC Macyโ€™s was open for customers, jewel thieves successfully operated a โ€œsmash and grabโ€ -- literally.

Two men entered the store in the University Towne Center just after 9 a.m. and brought along their hammer.

Despite the customers standing at the jewelry counter and the employees nearby, the suspects started smashing the jewelry cases.

โ€œThe suspects didn't say anything,โ€ said Lt. Ken Hubbs with the San Diego police department. โ€œThey went right straight to the jewelry started breaking the display case and grabbing items and run out the door.โ€

Hubbs said the robbery happened in a matter of minutes.

Witnesses reported seeing the men get into a white 2000 Chevy Malibu style car driven by another man. The license plate was covered with tin foil, according to police.

The suspects are described as white males in their 20's wearing baseball caps. One was about 5'7", 190 lbs, with short blond hair, wearing a grey or silver hoodie and tan pants. The second was about 5'5", 150 lbs, with acne, wearing a black hoodie and black pants.
