Small Fires Burned Along I-8 Near Alpine

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the death.

Firefighters worked quickly to put out two small brush fires in Alpine early Thursday.
Flames broke out just after 5:30 a.m. and burned about a quarter of an acre along the eastbound lanes of I-8 at Willows Road.
California Highway Patrol officers reported two spots were burning at one point about a half mile apart. Several people jumped out of their cars to help put the fires out.
No one was injured.
