Homeowner: “We Saw the Flames Moving Our Way”

A brush fire momentarily threatened at least one Poway home on Thursday, according to firefighters.

The blaze scorched three acres near Pomerado Road and Roberto Road before it was quickly contained.

Kate Culliton was inside her home on Casa Avenida with the windows closed and the air on when her friend noticed smoke in the brush near Hilltop circle. They rounded up the children and called the Poway Fire Department.

“In the span of a few minutes the fire spread rapidly through the dry brush and we saw the flames moving our way,” Culliton said. “It's been our fear since moving here 18 years ago that this hill would go up one day.”

The fire has left a temporary scar on the hillside, but it may leave a more lasting impression on the homeowners.

“Our whole neighborhood interestingly enough seems like a much more bonded and friendly place,” Culliton said. “It’s weird that it takes a fire to do that.”

No one was hurt and no structures burned. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
