Slick Roads Cause Pile-ups

Accidents were adding up as Saturday's storm worsened

Accidents on San Diego's roads added up Saturday as a winter storm became more aggressive.

Just after 2 p.m. on the southbound 805 freeway near the east Interstate 8 connector, seven cars were piled up, blocking a few lanes, according to the San Diego Fire Department.

The accident began with just a few cars, but as more vehicles slid to avoid the accident, the damage only got worse.

Earlier at about noon, a big rig collision forced the closure of three lanes on the northbound Interstate 5 near Carlsbad. Crews struggled to clean up leaked fuel from the accident.

The weekend's storm is expected to bring severe weather to many parts of San Diego County.
