A teenager has been arrested in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a skateboarder along the coast of Carlsbad, Calif.
The victim was found in the road on southbound Carlsbad Boulevard just north of Island Way just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The man was struck while riding skateboards down the middle of the road with a 19-year-old man, police said.
The 20-year-old man was found critically injured, hundreds of feet from the point of impact, officials said. The victim died while emergency personnel were treating him, officers said.
The second skateboarder was not injured.
Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a silver Chrysler sedan traveling southbound on Carlsbad Blvd. at a high rate of speed.
Carlsbad police arrested a 17-year-old female driver after officers found her and the car at 6550 Ponto Drive sometime after the incident.
Officials have not released the suspect’s name.
She will be booked into the Kearny Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI, and felony hit and run, police said.
The victim’s name has not been released pending family notification.
