Multi-Vehicle Crash in Mission Valley Snarls Traffic on I-8

Westbound traffic was backed up from the SR-163 junction to the I-805 junction

About a half-dozen vehicles were involved in a crash on westbound Interstate 8 in Mission Valley prompting a Sig Alert during Wednesday's morning commute.

The multi-vehicle crash happened at about 5:30 a.m. just west of Mission Center Road, according to California Highway Patrol.

It was not clear if anyone was injured in the crash.

Several lanes were blocked due to the crash causing traffic to stall as far east as the I-805 junction, according to NBC 7 traffic anchor Whitney Southwick.

A Sig Alert was issued just before 6 a.m. and traffic was being diverted onto state Route 163 or the Hotel Circle off-ramp.

All lanes were reopened just before 6:30 a.m. but NBC 7's First Alert Traffic maps were still showing traffic speeds as low as 10 miles per hour through the area.
