Two schools in City Heights were placed on lockdown Monday afternoon after shots were fired at Teralta Park.
SDPD said it first heard reports of gunfire at the park on the 4000 block of Orange Avenue at around 11:45 a.m.
According to SDPD Lieutenant Christian Sharp, investigators believe shots were fired by a suspect in a dark colored sedan with gold rims toward a pedestrian walking near the park.
Lt. Sharp said witnesses who reported seeing the pedestrian said they may have returned fire.
Children and families were in the park during the time of the shooting.
“We canvased the park and we don’t have any victims that were hit by gunfire,” Lt. Sharp said. “We’re going to still check, but we’re not finding any impact marks.”
According to the San Diego Unified School District communications director, both Wilson Middle School and Central Elementary were locked down as a precaution.

The lockdowns were lifted later in the afternoon and SDUSD announced the students are safe.
No suspects are in custody at this time, SDPD said.
