Shots Fired Inside and Outside During Adult Store Robbery in Midway District

Police were on the lookout Thursday night for a man accused of firing multiple shots during a robbery at an adult store in the Midway District.

A sales clerk at the adult Depot on the corner of Pacific Highway and Bandini Street was not injured, but she told NBC 7 a shot fired inside missed her only by a couple of feet.

She was too shook up to speak on camera, but the clerk said the suspect pointed a large caliber semi-automatic handgun at her and demanded cash.

Fearing for her life, she opened the cash drawer and turned away. As the strong-armed robber was emptying the drawer, the clerk says he saw himself in the security system monitor and shot it.

She says the man fled with $200 and then fired another round outside the business.

The San Diego Police Department said the suspect drove off in a gray sedan.

While there is plenty of security video from inside the store, investigators are having trouble identifying the suspect because he wore a hooded sweatshirt and bandana. SDPD is also hoping to get an image of his car or a better image of him from surveillance cameras at neighboring businesses.

Officers described the incident as an aggressive, take-over style robbery. An SDPD lieutenant said adult stores are at times targeted because some, like the Adult Depot, are open all night.
