Man Shot on Spring Valley Street

A Spring Valley man was hospitalized Wednesday with a gunshot wound to the head after a fight on a busy street.

San Diego County Sheriff's Deputies found a man in his 20s in the middle of Ildica Street near Sweetwater Road at approximately 5:46 p.m.

The victim was bleeding so badly, the initial 911 callers thought the young man had been beaten with a bat.

β€œHe had a gunshot wound to his neck on his left side. He was bleeding profusely . I took off my t-shirt applied to the wound. His dad came up the street to help me out and help to keep him conscious,” neighbor Luke Gant said.

Gant said he was walking outside when he first heard arguing then one gun shot.

Witnesses told deputies the fight involved the victim and four other adult suspects.  Investigators say the suspects fled in a small blue Honda Civic.

Ildica is blocked off in such a way that it is very difficult for those returning to get to their homes. Some 75 cars were parked at nearby Mount Miguel High School. Drivers walked the rest of the way.

The last update from officials reported that the man was in critical condition and undergoing surgery.
