Sheared Hydrant Spews Water Onto Building

A building housing a lumber business on Miramar Road got some unexpected showers Wednesday when a sheared fire hydrant spewed water onto the roof of the building.

According to officials, the hydrant was accidentally struck by a driver at Camino Santa Fe and the 6500 block of Miramar Road at around 1:15 p.m.

At one point, water from the hydrant was shooting up about 150 feet in the air and landing on the roof of the Frost Hardwood Lumber Company building.

Aerial views of the scene also showed water from the hydrant rolling down toward nearby railroad tracks. Officials confirmed the water did not pose a threat to train service in the area.

The driver who hit the hydrant remained at the scene until officials arrived. Crews worked to clean up the area and officials provided traffic control following the incident.
