Series of Overnight Fires Hit City Heights

San Diego police are searching for an arsonist who set a string of fires in the City Heights area late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

In all, four fires were set; three of them happened on Wightman Street.

The first fire sparked just before midnight in the 5200 block of Rex Avenue, where an old Christmas tree was set ablaze. Then, just after midnight, another fire was lit of garbage in the back of pickup in the 5200 block of Wightman Street, police said.

Two more fires were reported near that same block of Wightman Street at about 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.

No one was injured and there was no significant damage.

Officials with the San Diego Metro Arson Strike Team these types of fires have been an ongoing issue for months and have made it a top priority to find the suspects responsible.
