Sergeant Accused of Sexually Assaulting Volunteer

District attorney rejected case over the summer for lack of evidence

A police sergeant in El Cajon is under investigation, accused of sexually assaulting a department volunteer.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department first began looking into the allegations on August 28 – one day after the 20-year-old volunteer reported the alleged incident.

The sheriff’s department conducted an investigation, which they sent to the District Attorney’s office.

The DA’s office rejected the case, saying it lacked evidence to support the allegations.

At that point, the El Cajon Police Department picked up an internal investigation of the sergeant. The investigation is currently underway.

The unnamed sergeant has been on administrative leave since deputies first began their investigation.

The El Cajon Police Department, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and the DA declined to comment on the investigation or the allegations.
