Seattle Man Dies Crossing Street

San Diego Police Traffic Division is investigation the incident

A 48-year-old man died in La Jolla Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle near a major La Jolla intersection near a mall and restaurants.

Robert Guy Heard was crossing the street outside the marked crosswalk on La Jolla Village Drive east of the intersection with Executive Drive when a Toyota Tacoma fatally hit him. He was transported to the hospital, and despite aggressive resuscitate efforts, was pronounced dead in the ambulance.

Witnesses said the truck driver was not speeding, and police said the driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Police speculate he was jogging over to the Embassy Suites hotel, where he was staying.

β€œDriver never even saw the pedestrian until the last minute, never even had a chance,” said Sgt. Art Doherty

Heard was a businessman from Washington, according to Doherty. The medical examiner’s office listed him as married and a Bellevue, Wash. resident.
