Search Called Off for Missing La Mesa Man

Don Hoff, 43, hasn't been seen since Monday

A larger-scale search was called off Saturday night for a 43-year-old La Mesa man who hadn't been seen for a week.

Don Hoff was reported missing by his mother on Thursday and hasn’t been seen since Monday night when he attended a family dinner, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies.

According to deputies, Hoff’s car was found Friday at the base of Iron Mountain on Poway Road and Highway 67 at about 3:07 a.m.

"We heard that there might be one place to look and so we've sent ASTREA out to search," said Lt. David Gilmore on Sunday. The larger search was called off, though hikers have been asked to be on the look out for him.

About dozen family members were searching for Hoff at Poway Road and Highway 67 on Sunday, but declined to comment.

Earlier, a group of volunteers and search dogs were checking the trails in the area and the Sheriff's ASTREA helicopter was used to help with the search.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department at (858) 565-5200.
