Search Continues for Man Who Robbed Subway, Cabbie

Police say thief stole cash from a store in the 1000 block of W. Laurel St. before taking cabbie's wallet

San Diego police are searching for a suspect who they said who robbed a Subway restaurant near Lindbergh Field before robbing a cab driver of his wallet at gunpoint on Friday. 

The suspect's crime spree began at a Subway located at 1025 W. St. when he entered the store displaying a weapon and demanded cash from an employee at about 9:35 p.m., according to SDPD Officer David Stafford.

The man made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, Stafford added.

The man reportedly then robbed a cab driver at gunpoint, taking the cabbie's wallet before fleeing on foot. The cab driver was able to chase the suspect to a nearby construction site, but later lost him, according to Stafford.

Police describe the suspect as a African American male who stood a little over 6 feet tall, with a thin build. He was said to be wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with a mask over his face at the time of the incident.

No injuries were reported in either robbery.
