Scissors Fire Almost Under Control

Two brush fires in between Julian and the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park has charred 110 acres as of Sunday morning.

The fires started Saturday night around 9:00 p.m. on County Highway S-2 near Route 78, said CalFire Battalion Chief Nick Schuler.

When firefighters arrived, Schuler said there were two separate fires on either side of the road. County Highway S-2 has now been reopened to the public.

Full containment is expected sometime Sunday night, Schuler said, the weather is helping firefighters get a quick handle on the flames.

The fires are headed toward the southern boundary of the park, Schuler said. They have not threatened any structures.

Investigators are looking into the cause of both fires.
