A fire that caused about $60,000 worth of damage at a Rolando elementary school is being investigated as arson, firefighters said.

The fire was reported at Henry Clay elementary in the 6500 block of Solita Avenue Saturday night. When firefighters arrived flames were pouring out of the corner of the building.

“The fire did come through a window and burn significantly in the ceiling area,” Battalion Chief Dan Froelich said.

They were able to knock the fire out in about 10 minutes.

“We did have water damage from a broken water line. It’s going to take some construction to get the building back for it to be occupied,” Froelich said.

The school is located in a residential neighborhood but no other homes were threatened and no one was injured.

The fire caused about $50,000 in damage to the property and $10,000 to the content inside.
