Man Clings to Life After Attack in Santee

A man was in critical condition and not expected to survive Monday following an assault with a deadly weapon in Santee, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The man was found in the San Diego river bottom just west of Chubb Lane and N. Magnolia Avenue at 5:19 p.m. Sunday.

The victim was unresponsive and suffering from severe trauma to his upper body, deputies said.

Deputies described the man as a resident of a nearby homeless camp. They believe he is approximately 50 years old.

The victim was taken to a nearby local hospital where medical staff told deputies he is not expected to survive.
