A group of sand carvers named “IB Posse” claimed the $5,000 prize this weekend at the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition.

The winners created an American flag replica and block letters saying “Thank You Troops.”

Second place winners made a sand model of U.S. space shuttle, as a tribute to its 30 years in flight. Third place winners sculpted two birds sitting atop a Chrysler Plymouth, which they titled “Foster Farms Impostors.”

Thousands of beach goers attended the event to watch professional and amateur sand carving teams compete from all over the country. More than $21,000 in prizes was awarded for winning groups across different categories.
