A man armed with a handgun robbed a Payless ShoeSource store in San Ysidro Saturday, the San Diego Police Department said.

The robbery happened just before 1 p.m. at the Payless located at 501 East Ysidro Blvd.

Police say a man in his 20s entered the store and walked around for about 30 minutes before approaching the female clerk with a handgun and demanding cash.

The suspect then told the clerk to go into the back of the store, and he fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured.

It is unclear if there were any customers in the store at the time of the incident.

Police say a witness last saw the suspect running westbound on East San Ysidro Blvd. The man is described as white or Hispanic, 5-foot-6 and 150-pounds. He was wearing a white shirt and shorts at the time of the robbery. Anyone with information should contact the SDPD.
