Intruder Fled from Young Girl's Bedroom: Deputies

Deputies are searching for an unknown man who allegedly entered the bedroom of a young girl early Friday morning and inappropriately touched her.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened at a home in the 1200 block of Calle Colnett and Avenida Chapala in San Marcos around 5:30 a.m.

Officials say the intruder entered the girl’s bedroom through an unlocked window and touched her. She began screaming, and he quickly fled the scene.

The girl’s mother woke up and called deputies to report the incident.

San Marcos deputies searched the area for the suspect, but were unable to locate him. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Child Abuse Unit also responded to the scene and began their investigation, which is ongoing.

No further details, including a suspect description, were immediately released. Officials are now looking into whether this case is linked to two other similar incidents in Escondido.

According to police, similar cases involving an unknown suspect entering the bedrooms of young girls through open windows recently happened near Oak Hill and Rose Street.

Police say that suspect used the same technique, targeting bottom-floor open windows where the suspect knew that little girls lived.

“Our concern is that he is moving around and he’s doing a certain amount of pre-scouting and casing [in Escondido and San Marcos],” and Escondido official told NBC 7.

Residents in San Marcos were shocked to hear of the incident on Calle Colnett and said they’d be more cautious in regards to locking their windows and doors.

Deputies want to remind the public to secure all exterior doors and windows while sleeping to avoid intruder incidents such as this case.
