In celebration of Father’s Day, YMCAs across San Diego County will be free and open to the community on Sunday.
“The YMCA is all about spending time with family, healthy living and social responsibility,” said Baron Herdelin-Doherty, President and CEO of the YMCA of San Diego County. “It’s important to us to offer as many free and open days to our community. We hope San Diegans consider celebrating dads with us this Sunday.”
There are 16 YMCAs in San Diego, most with a swimming pool, group exercise classes, fitness centers, basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields and on-site child care.
Father’s Day was likely first celebrated on June 19, 1910 at a YMCA in Spokane, Washington.
Other local Father’s Day ideas include the Padres game at Petco Park, “Hoppy Father’s Day” at Stone Brewery, BBQ sand beach concert with Gary Sinise &the Lt. Dan Band at the Hotel Del Coronado, the San Diego International Beer Festival at the fair and Belmont Park Father’s Day car show.
