San Diego Unified School District and San Diego Education Association Reach Tentative Contract Agreement

The San Diego Unified School District and the San Diego Education Association (SDEA) have reached a tentative contract agreement.

Before it goes into place, the agreement must be ratified by SDEA members and the San Diego Unified School District’s Board of Education. Officials say that the agreement could be ratified next month or by early November.

The tentative deal includes a base pay raise, compensation for after-school events and other salary structure changes:

  • 3 percent pay raise retroactive to July 1
  • Compounded 1 percent increase at the start of 2017
  • Hourly rate of $29.50 for teachers supervising after-school, school sponsored activities (dances, drama, speech, athletic and band events)
  • Audiologists will be moved to the speech and language (SLP) salary plan
  • The Early Childhood Education salary plan will be compacted from 23 steps to 17 steps.

SDEA President Lindsay Burningham called the salary increase “fair and competitive.”

“This salary increase will improve compensation for our members, while helping the district recruit and retain the best talent and brightest educators. We strongly believe this is a good agreement for all parties.”
