In Forbes’ annual list, "Best Cities for Young Professionals," San Diego ranks in the top 20 for 2017.
How can that be, you ask?
The Forbes list looks at the largest metropolitan areas of the U.S. and ranks them by: salaries for recent graduates, rent, employment options, networking potential and social outlook.
Here’s why America’s Finest City falls at #18:
- Recent grad median salary: $53,200 (Per PayScale data of recent college graduates with up to five years of work experience)
- Median rent as a share of median salary: 13% (Determined by half the median cost of renting a two-bedroom apartment)
Local
- Unemployment rate: 3.6% (Per Bureau of Labor Statistics)
- Projected annual job growth: 1.69% (Per Bureau of Labor Statistics)
- Adults with bachelor’s degrees or higher: 38% (Census figures)
-Population aged 20 to 29: 13% (Per Census figures)
According to Forbes, the top three cities for young professionals are Salt Lake City, Utah; Boise, Idaho; and Redwood City, California.
