Vince Hall announced he would no longer work for Filner's office

The chief of staff for San Diego Mayor Bob Filner resigned on Friday afternoon.

Vince Hall, who has worked for the mayor since shortly after the election, tweeted on Friday afternoon that he has resigned.

Filner has been under fire this week after he was accused of sexually harassing female employees.

"As a lifelong activist for women’s rights and equality, I feel I must resign effective today," Hall posted.

The now-former chief of staff made this announcement minutes after local democratic leaders publicly asked for Filner's resignation.
