Local Charity Gives Away Free Prom Dresses

Cinderella's Attic giving away 140 prom dresses to underprivileged high school girls on Apr. 15

Prom is a special occasion for most teenage girls, and a local charity is giving away free prom dresses to underprivileged high school girls so they have something beautiful to wear to their big dance.

On Sunday, San Diego charity Cinderella’s Attic -- a non-profit organization that provides formal dresses and accessories to high school girls in need – will host the Cinderella’s Attic 2012 Prom Boutique at the Hilton Hotel in Mission Valley from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

More than 140 free prom dresses will be given to girls at the event.

Kerry Spark, founder of Cinderella’s Attic, said the dresses are either donated brand-new from bridal shops and fashion boutiques, or gently-used gowns donated through dress drives.

“Prom dresses can be expensive, so being able to provide students with this support can really help girls look and feel their best,” said Spark.

Sunday’s event will also offer formal shoes, accessories, purses and jewelry to girls attending prom. All items are free of charge to high school students.

Additionally, fashion experts will be on-hand to help students find the perfect dress for their unforgettable dance.
