People Evacuated From Homes in SWAT Standoff

People were barred from their University City homes Thursday night as San Diego police dealt with a SWAT standoff at an apartment complex.

Just after 7 p.m., police got a call about a family dispute at the La Jolla Crossroads complex, which sits on Judicial Drive near Brook Lane, according to SDPD officials.

According to officials, a girl came out and said her father had a gun inside a third-story unit. With him was the girl's mother and a 15-year-old boy.

The man would not respond to the SWAT team's requests to come out, so police evacuated five surrounding apartments as they tried to get him to surrender.

At about 10:30 p.m., the suspect finally picked up the phone and came out with the woman and boy. SWAT officers took him into custody on suspicion of domestic violence assault.

The woman in the incident had an undisclosed injury, but no other injuries were reported.

Residents were allowed back into their homes soon after.

Police the man would likely be charged with domestic violence, though further details were not released.
