Semi-Truck Hauling Fuel Tank Flips and Slides Off SR-67

The exit lane from State Route 67 to Broadway and part of Magnolia Way in El Cajon were closed after a crash on the freeway flipped a semi-truck over and sent it through a fence.

The CHP said the tanker, filled with 18,000 gallons of fuel, was in the exit lane headed for Broadway when an SUV hit it and caused it to roll over just after 8 p.m.

The tanker slid off the roadway and smashed through a fence near Magnolia Avenue. CHP officers said the weather was a factor in the crash.

Both the semi-truck and the SUV were severely damaged, but no injuries were reported. A mother and her child were passengers in the SUV.

Hazardous material crews were on scene working to transfer the fuel to another tanker before the truck could be taken away.

The truck flipped amid a winter storm that brought scattered showers and snowfall. It was not clear if the weather was a contributing factor in the crash.
