SDUSD Names Superintendent

After an extensive search and lots of discussion, the largest district in San Diego has named its superintendent.

The San Diego Unified School District announced that William Kowba, currently the interim superintendent for the district, will be its "sole finalist" for the superintendent job.

Kowba beat out two other finalists: Debbra A. Lindo, currently the CEO and Chief Academic Officer for College Track and Dale W. Vigil, former superintendent of the Hayward Unified School District.

Over the last several months the district gave the public opportunities to share their opinions with the board about the most desirable skills and personal qualities needed in the next superintendent.

There were five town hall meetings attended by parents, students, employees and community members as well as opportunities to submit suggestions through the district's website.

In addition, the process included the involvement of a board-appointed committee of volunteers -- including one student --- who helped facilitate those town hall meetings, reviewed all applications for the position and referred seven candidates out of more than 20 applications.
