Roughly 75,000 students applied

Nearly 75,000 students applied to San Diego State University for fall 2013, making it the highest amount of applications ever received, according to school officials.

Applications increased by 8 percent this year, beating last year’s record of nearly 69,000.

About 54,000 applied for spots in the freshman class. While admissions officers will not know how many people they can admit until spring, roughly 7,500 students entered this fall.

The California State University system received more than 730,000 applications across its 23 campuses.

Officials said applicants can expect notification of acceptance by March 2013.
