More students than ever are graduating from San Diego State University.

A new study out says SDSU showed the best improvement in its graduation rate of any public research university in the country.

From 2002 to 2008, SDSU raised its graduation rate from 44 to 61 percent.

The rates are based on incoming freshman who graduate within six years.

While SDSU's rate now surpasses the 55 percent average for public institutions, it still trails behind UC San Diego, which had a 2008 graduation rate of 85 percent.
