1 Killed in Mount Hope Shooting

Shots were fired just before 8:40 p.m. on B Street, police said

A man was killed in a shooting in San Diego’s Mount Hope area Friday night, the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) confirmed.

SDPD Homicide Lt. Ray Valentin said shots erupted just before 8:40 p.m. in the 3900 block of B Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered an unresponsive man lying on the street, suffering from trauma to his upper body.

The victim was taken to a hospital, but died from his wounds less than an hour later.

The victim’s name was not immediately released, but the SDPD said he is a 53-year-old San Diego resident. The deadly shooting is under investigation; anyone with information on this case can call the SDPD’s Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.

There was one other shooting around the same time Friday night in Mount Hope, on Hilltop Drive, and police are trying to determine if the two incidents are in any way related.
