State test scores gained for the sixth straight year for students in San Diego Unified School District.

SDUSD now has the highest English language arts scores of any large urban district in California, replacing San Francisco for the first place spot.

"Facing the worst financial crisis to ever hit public education, our teachers, principals, support staff parents and students continue to keep their focus and make clear, steady progress in educating California's next generation,” SDUSD Superintendent Bill Kowba said in a news release.

Marvin Elementary School in Del Cerro had the greatest improvement in English language arts, with the most improvement in math from Sherman Elementary School in Sherman Heights.
