The famous local suppliers of festive poinsettias was bought Tuesday night by a Dutch-based company.
Ecke Ranch, owned by the same family that owns Carlsbad's Flower Fields was sold to Agribio Group, the ranch announced in a Greenhouse Product News article.
Paul Ecke III said the sale was a result of a changing customer-base and the ranch's evolving role as a breeder and supplier.
"We need a strong partner to support our innovation and provide our customer more options," Ecke III said in the article. "Agribio Group is the right partner to do just this.”
The farm is enormously prolific, selling roughly 90 percent of the holiday plants in the country at one point, the North County Times reported.
Ecke said the sale will not get in the way of business as usual.
