A PT Cruiser made it from the border crossing at Otay Mesa to Northern California with $430,000 worth of meth hidden inside, according to officials.

The Santa Clara County sheriff's department said its deputies pulled over a female driver near Gilroy along Highway 101 and Highway 152 last Friday. This+is+the+39+pounds+of+meth+found+in+PT+Cruiser

A K-9 unit along with special units of the DEA and Sheriff's Methamphetamine Enforcement Team detectives discovered 39 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in various compartments inside the vehicle, deputies said. One of them was inside the back brake light of the car.

They didn't say what prompted them to search the car so thoroughly.

The driver, a 54-year-old woman from Tijuana, was arrested and booked on possession and transportation of methamphetamine for sale, as well as importing a controlled substance into the state.

She is being held on a no bail warrant.

Investigators said the driver entered California through the U.S. border crossing at Otay Mesa with the intent to distribute the drugs in San Jose.
