Rocky Long Named MWC Coach of the Year

SDSU football team is 9-3 and won their first conference title last month

San Diego State University's head football coach Rocky Long was awarded the Mountain West Conference "Coach of the Year" this week.

The Aztecs have enjoyed a good season at 9-3, and clinched their first MWC Championship title last month.

Long, who frequently does guest recaps for NBC 7 Sports Night, also won the award 10 years ago when he was coaching New Mexico.

"I'm lucky I'm still here today. I'm an old man," said Long in a press conference. "I don't know how much longer I'm gonna coach. I had a buddy call me and say congratulations, you're really consistent. Every ten years you win coach of the year. I'm not sure, I doubt if I'm around to do it one more time."

SDSU football fans can look forward to the Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium on Dec. 20, where the Aztecs could win their tenth game against rival Brigham Young University.
