Ride Fulfills Lifelong Wish

A local boy's lifelong dream to fly in a helicopter, was granted, just in time for Christmas.

Brandon Shively is a local seven-year-old boy with an inoperable brain tumor who has been receiving radiation treatment at UCSD Thornton Cancer Center.

His dream has always been to ride in a helicopter.

With the help of some of his friends at his church and Mercy air, Brandon's wish came true Tuesday.

Brandon took off from Gillespie field in a special helicopter and rode all around the county Tuesday.

His family says he is very lucky to be getting so much support from the community.

"Brandon has gone through a lot. He's been very brave and courageous and he is teaching our whole family a lot right now," said his aunt Kim Huffacker. "I believe he is here for a reason. God decided to keep him around for a little longer, so that we can be with him and do all these things that the public is reaching out a lot."

The chopper is the newest and most modern in the air EMS community. It comes equipped with night vision goggles to allow medical crews to get to scenes, safely in the dark.

At the end of the day, the helicopter and its team took Brandon to the hospital for his radiation treatment.
