New “Welcome to Bonita” Sign Unveiled

Members of the Bonita community celebrated the replacement of the “Welcome to Bonita” sign Monday, months after the sign was toppled by a tree.

The sign is posted at the entrance of Bonita, across the street from Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary.

In early November, it was toppled by a falling Eucalyptus tree.

Kiwanis Club of Bonita President and Glen Abbey Mortuary Manager Charles Bailey, Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox and San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox officiated the ribbon cutting ceremony Monday to dedicate the new "Welcome to Bonita" sign.

Several community members helped fund the creation of the new sign, including donations from Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary, the Kiwanis Club of Bonita as well as other local organizations, along with a San Diego County grant.
