Tinder Date Allegedly Leads to Sex Assault in Campus Garage: PD

City College Police are investigating the reported sex assault, which happened inside the City College V building parking structure

A woman reported she was sexually assaulted by a man she met on Tinder when he parked his car in a City College San Diego garage, machete in the back seat, campus police said.

City College Police are investigating the reported sex assault, which happened inside the City College V building parking structure at approximately 12:45 p.m. Tuesday. The parking garage is located at 1081 16th Street.

The victim, who met suspect Benjamin on Tinder.com, had arranged to meet the man in front of campus Tuesday, police said.

When the victim got into his car, he drove into the parking structure, where he parked his light silver Dodge Charger. Police reported the man had a machete in the back seat of his vehicle. The car has a white racing stripe over the hood, officials said.

College police said Benjamin is 25 or 26-years-old and has a mustache and beard along his jaw. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt.

Heidi Bunkowske, a spokeswoman for the college, said campus police have turned over the case to the San Diego Police sex crimes unit.

There is no indication this incident is linked to last week's sex assault in a campus stairwell.

Anyone with information is asked to call College Police at (619) 388-6405, the San Diego Police at (619) 531-2000 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-TIPS.
