Companies Make Lifesaving Donations

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders thanked two companies Thursday for answering an important call.

Qualcomm and Leap Wireless donated 200 mobile phones and two years worth of Cricket wireless service to the San Diego Police Department. The donations will help offset budget cuts to the police department.

"Make no mistake," Mayor Jerry Sanders said, "these are tough times in our city's history, but tough times bring out the best in people and the best in a company."

A few months ago, the police department made a cost-saving decision to get rid of about 200 phones to save $300,000. The recent donations will help replace and maintain those phones for officers.
