Pursuit Hits Freeway Speeds on Residential Linda Vista Streets

A police pursuit that reached freeway speeds on Linda Vista and Morena streets ended Thursday with one suspect in custody.

San Diego Police say the chase started on Interstate 8 at about 9:30 p.m., though it's unclear why they started chasing him. Officers followed the driver as he exited the freeway onto Morena Boulevard, speeding through alleyways and residential roads.

The suspect, who at times hit 65 mph on streets with a much slower speed limit, bypassed several spike strips laid out to damage his tires, police say.

Officers finally caught up to the driver in the 6900 block of Linda Vista Road, where he was arrested. The suspect's mom was at the scene.

K-9 units helped search the vehicle, and police are still investigating.
