Poway High School was placed on lockdown early Wednesday according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The lockdown began at 10:30 a.m. Deputies clearned the scene before students were released for the day.

In a statement to parents of PHS students, school administrators confirmed they  were advised to place the campus on lockdown after deputies received a potential threat against the school.

Deputies were on campus and working with teachers and administrators according to school officials. Authorities have determined that the threat was unfounded.
