Officials have responded to a possible sighting of a hand grenade in Alpine.
Around 9 a.m. sheriff's deputies went to Interstate 8 near Japatul Valley Road after receiving a call about a dangerous object in the area.
A bomb squad has been called to the area to investigate. The possible grenade is near homes, but residents have not been asked to evacuate at this time.
