Police Pursuit Ends in Crash on I-805

A police pursuit ended in a crash on northbound Interstate 805 just north of State Route 94 Thursday.

At least five police squad cars were seen pursuing a white vehicle that ultimately veered off the roadway and crashed into a brush-filled embankment on the shoulder at around 1:10 p.m.

NBC 7 chopper video showed that at least one person inside the white sedan was injured in the crash and taken away by ambulance. Several objects were strewn from the car following the collision.

SDPD officials say officers began pursuing the vehicle after they learned the car was reportedly stolen from Ocean View Boulevard.

The driver of the suspect vehicle failed to stop for police. As the driver traveled on I-805, the driver rear-ended another vehicle on the freeway and then came to halt.

The woman in the rear-ended vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital.

The driver in the suspect vehicle was taken into custody and may have been driving under the influence, California Highway Patrol officials said.

No SDPD units were involved in the collision.

As of 1:20 p.m., there were approximately eight police cars and several officers on motorcycles at the scene. CHP will handle the investigation into the crash.

Traffic has slowed in the area and is backed up to Plaza Boulevard.
