Police Patrol Car Strikes Bicyclist

The cyclist sustained injuries, including a possible fractured leg

A bicyclist was injured Wednesday evening after a police officer driving a patrol car accidentally struck the cyclist in near Webster.

According to Lt. Andrew Hoffman of the SDPD traffic division, the collision happened just before 7 p.m. in the 4600 block of Home Avenue near Ridgeview.

Hoffman said a bicyclist riding northeastbound on Home Avenue crossed in front of traffic and was hit by an officer driving a marked police patrol vehicle.

Hoffman said the cyclist was dressed in all black and had no lights on his bike.

The cyclist sustained a fractured lower leg and arm injury, but was conscious and breathing. Medics transported the patient to a local hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
