Police Detective Injured in Car Accident

El Cajon crash may have been a hit-and-run, police say

A San Diego police detective was injured in a car accident Wednesday morning on his way to work.

Just after 5 a.m., a car crashed and rolled over on the right lane of Interstate 15, near El Cajon Blvd., according to California Highway Patrol reports.

CHP believed three other cars were involved in the accident, as per a witness account. However, when they arrived, there were no other cars on the scene. Authorities are not sure if the accident was a hit-and-run though, since they have no documentation of any other vehicle being involved.

When the fire department arrived, crews closed three lanes of the southbound 15 and a Sig Alert was issued.

One of the drivers involved in the crash was a San Diego Police Department Detective, the department later said. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the detective was released from the hospital.

It is not clear at this time if any other drivers or passengers were injured in the accident.
