A checkpoint in San Diego Saturday ended with five arrests for suspicion of drunken driving and one person was cited for throwing an alcohol container out of a car, according to San Diego police.

The checkpoint was setup at El Cajon Boulevard and 41st Street from 9:01 p.m. to 12:43 a.m., along with saturation patrols, said SDPD Officer Mark McCullough.

One motorist was arrested and had their car impounded and a passenger in the car was cited after police said they threw an open alcohol container out of the window as the car drove into the checkpoint, McCullough said.

Officers made four more arrests for drunken driving during the saturation patrols, McCullough added.

Edit: An earlier version of this article said the checkpoint was in El Cajon. We regret the error.
