A water main broke in Point Loma on Thursday afternoon, causing asphalt to break at a major intersection.
The 16-inch water main on Nimitz Boulevard broke at around 12:45 p.m. Thursday. The pipe is a main artery to the area.
Authorities do not yet know how many residents in the area are out of water.
At about 5 p.m. Arian Collins of the San Diego Water Department said the road will continue to be shut down in the northbound lane.
Crews are expecting to make all the necessary repairs by 8 p.m.
