Outages Possible in East County

Customers in the east county may experience power outages due to excessively high winds ripping through the region.

San Diego Gas and Electric sent messages to all customers who live in areas where the risk of fire is high, warning those customers that power may be cut off for safety reasons.

The wind-related outages would be a last resort, according to one SDG&E spokesperson.

A variety of factors will impact the power company's decision, including wind speeds and assessments from ground crews.

Three outages have aready been reported in the area. Two were not related to wind. The third, in the Dehesa area is still under investigation, SDG& E stated.

Winds in the area may reach 65 MPH, the National Weather Service warned.
