Eastbound lanes of state Route 94 were shut down Tuesday afternoon in Lemon Grove when a male person fatally jumped from an overpass onto the pavement below, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The person, whose age and identity have not been released, fell before 6 p.m.

Witnesses called emergency services reporting a jumper, the spokesman said. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Commuters experienced heavy traffic delays.

At about 6 p.m., they were diverted off the highway at Lemon Grove Avenue.

At 7:33 p.m., all lanes were re-opened.
